CIT Account Information

1. Overview

The ITO has its own credentials for students, employees, and guests. Please note that the CIT credentials are not the same as the credentials you use to log in to TUMOnline. You can get your credentials as:

  • a student per email after your matriculation
  • An employee from your chair's IT department during the hiring process
  • Guests or assistants, after being hired by the chair administrator
Below is an overview of the different credentials for a fictitious Max Mustermann.

2. CIT Credentials

2.1 Students

At the beginning of their studies, students receive an identification slip for the preliminary courses and a welcome email containing their identification and activation links. This means that every CIT student has a CIT ID. Regardless of whether you are a math, computer science, or electrical engineering student, everyone gets a CIT ID. This identifier is completely separate from the TUM / TUM identifier.

2.1.1. Services for Students

Below is a list of the services and the required credentials for them:

2.1.2. Renewal of CIT-account (credentials)

2.1.2.1 matriculated

The student CIT Account is automatically renewed as long as the TUM Account is active.

  • The TUMUID (TUM-credentials) entry in the database is required for this. For new students, this entry already exists. For older students, however, the entry might be missing
  • All expired accounts (due to the missing TUMUID entry) are marked for deletion 4 times a year, and the user is contacted via email to inform them that the account/credentials will be deleted shortly. If you are still a student of TUM, you can use the link in the email, in order to link your TUMUID and hereby renew the account.
  • If you don't react to the email, the account will be deactivated after 30 days and then deleted 1 month after that. If the Account has been deleted, you will have to request a new account at the Infopoint.
*By following this link, you can check when your Account expires and enter your TUM credentials if necessary: https://my.ito.cit.tum.de/reset_password/

You can renew your account for a shorter period by following the link in the email.

If a guest account is required, please refer to your chair's IT administrator to request it through the proper channels.

2.2.2. Creating a User Account

Employees with a CIT account have access to the ITO's central services and to CIT credentials for the Rechnerhalle. To generate a new employee account, a user application is required. This can be done in one of two possible ways:

2.2.2.1. Automatic generation

When a new CIT faculty member starts working, the ITO is contacted directly, and the user application is automatically generated.

The chair's IT Administrator is then contacted via email to confirm the user account in StrukturDB.

Once the guest account is created, the chair administrator will receive an email with the ID and activation link.

Then, the employee can activate his account via My.ITO Portal by signing the user guidelines and setting their password (if the TUM ID is registered in the Database).

2.2.2.2. Manual generation

If the user application is not generated automatically, the chair's IT administrator can generate it directly in StrukturDB for an employee.

  • The rest of the process is identical to 2.2.2.1

2.2.3. Renewal of CIT-account (credentials)

2.2.3.1. Employee

If the CIT account is linked to the TUM Account, it is automatically renewed as long as the TUM account is active.

  • The TUMUID (TUM-credentials) entry in the database is required for this. For new employees, this entry already exists. For some older employees, however, the entry might be missing
  • The chairs' IT administrators are contacted via email when the accounts are marked for deletion, and they can enter their TUM credentials to renew the accounts.
  • If the TUM credentials are not entered, the user will be contacted 1-2 weeks later via email and will be informed that the account will be deleted shortly. If he/she is still an employee, he/she can manually renew it on the linked website (https://my.ito.cit.tum.de/reset_password/
  • If the TUM credentials are entered in UCentral within 30 days, the account will be automatically renewed.
  • If the employee does not react to the email, the account will be deactivated after 30 days and then be deleted after another 30 days.
By following this link, you can check when your Account expires and enter your TUM credentials if necessary: https://my.ito.cit.tum.de/reset_password/

The account information looks like this for a guest:
ucentral: Renew your RBG account - Mozilla Firefox_078.jpg

2.2.3.2. End of employment

After the expiration of the CIT-account (exmatriculation or end of employment), an email will be sent to the corresponding @cit.tum.de email account

  • The email informs the user that emails will only be received and sent for 1 month and that a renewal of the account for a short period of time (max. 1 month) is possible by following the link in the email, provided there is a valid reason for it
  • If the account is needed in the future, you can also contact your chair's IT administrator to convert the user account to a guest account. If the email is ignored, the account can not be renewed and will be deactivated after 30 days, and then deleted another 30 days later

Exception: If an employee leaves the CIT faculty for a limited amount of time (e.g., 6 months to 1 year) and it is certain that the employee returns after his/her hiatus, the employee can contact his/her IT-administrator for a renewal of the user account.

2.3. Guest

2.3.1 Guests without CIT-credentials

If a guest of the CIT needs a CIT account, he/she can contact their IT administrator for this purpose. The administrator can then apply for a guest account via the StrukturDB.

Once the guest account is created, the chair administrator will receive an email with the ID and activation link.

Then, the guest can activate his account via MyITO by signing the user guidelines and setting his password (if the TUM ID is registered in the Database).

2.4. External Students or student assistant

A student assistant who is not studying at the CIT faculty and works at a CIT chair can have the chair's administrator apply for a student account in StrukturDB on their behalf.

External students or auditors can get their CIT ID from the ITO. To do this, please send an email to support@ito.cit.tum.de with the following information:

 First name,

  • Surname,
  • Date of birth,
  • Matriculation number,
  • TUM identifier (e.g., lr89ito)
  • Degree program,
  • Reason for the application

3. Changing of the CIT Password

The CIT password must be reset in the following cases:
   1. When a new one is created, so that the account is activated
   2. If the password has been forgotten

Employees, students, and guests can change their CIT passwords themselves via this link if their TUM identifier (tumuid) is registered in StrukturDB. The CIT account is linked to the TUM account, so this entry is necessary.

If it is not available, the chair administrators can enter it in the StrukturDB (database) for employees and guests. For students, this can be done by the ITO-Helpdesk. Please write an email to support@ito.cit.tum.de with the following information:

  •  First name,
  • Surname,
  • Date of birth,
  • Matriculation number,
  • TUM identifier (e.g., lr89ito)
