If you have any problems, please state the name of the printer. This can be found on a label at the top right of the printer.

Printing from the computer

In addition to setting up a printer driver (see below), the printing system must be authenticated. This is done slightly differently depending on the computer environment:

  • Own workstation with network cable: One-time activation on ucentrall: https://my.ito.cit.tum.de/printing/ Activation using the “Enable this computer for printing” button. On this page you can also view the print queue, whether a card is connected to the user and whether the computer is authorized to print.
  • Mathematics workplace BlackBox: the printer  followme is configured.
  • W-LAN: Short-term activation on ucentral: https://my.ito.cit.tum.de/printing/ Activation using the “Activate this computer for printing” button. Printing is possible as long as the website is open.
  • VPN: If you log in via VPN, you are automatically activated for printing.
  • In the computer hall: The printer followme is configured there.

Students require a print quota for printing. This can be queried in the computer hall and lxhalle using the command lpquota or Applications -> System -> Print Quota. It is also displayed on the card reader.

At the MPIC print quota can be loaded. For student work, the supervisor can be contacted at support@ito.cit.tum.de Druckquota for the student.

Access to information

On https://qpilot.rbg.tum.de There is a user self service where the following can be viewed:

  • mobilePrint: Sending PDF print jobs from the web. This happens quite quickly, so you might be inclined to overlook it. It is best to check under Print jobs.
  • Print jobs: Displays the print jobs saved on the server. These can be marked as unprinted (click on the empty star) or deleted from the server (go over the print job name and then click on the red garbage can). The server automatically deletes the print jobs after three days!
  • Transactions: Display of the printouts and to which cost center they go (for cost center printing, the number is always 0). With quota printing, the number of used quota pages is displayed.
  • Account statement: Only relevant for quota printing for students: This shows the debits and credits to the quota.

The following can be viewed or configured on ucentral:  https://my.ito.cit.tum.de/printing/

  • Is the computer authorized to print? This can be activated if necessary. Once for permanently connected computers, temporarily for W-LAN.
  • Is the user connected to a card. If not, the user can register.
  • Which print jobs are pending and have been printed.

Setting up the printer on your own computer

Below is a brief overview of the installation. Detailed instructions are linked here:

Queues

There are the following print queues that can be configured on the computer. The default should always be followme:

  • followme: Standard queue, the print jobs can be picked up at any printer.
  • followme.bw: Like followme, but the print jobs are converted to black/white by the server. (However, this can be changed on the printer)
  • print shop: Jobs in this queue can only be called up in the print shop. This makes it impossible to accidentally print to other printers in the company.
  • druckerei.sw: Like druckerei, only converted to black/white by the server.

Exam printing

Thanks to the professional finisher with booklet function, selected Xerox printers are also suitable for  printing exams.

It makes sense to use the print shop queue for this.
